What is Gnosis?
Gnosis comes from Greek and means “knowledge”.
When we speak of Gnosis, we want to refer to universal knowledge, that is, Gnosis is the science that studies all things: nature, life, the universe and its laws, with the concrete objective of understanding human nature and discovering who we are, where we come from, where we are going and why we exist.
Gnosis is the knowledge that presents as a synthesis a transcendental and transformative wisdom. This knowledge is very ancient and was present in several cultures and in the greatest cradles of knowledge: the school of the Egyptians, the Library of Alexandria, the Essenes, the Templars, in China, India, Tibet, Japan, the Aztecs, Mayans, Incas and many other ancient cultures and traditions.
As important as culture is in a person’s life, it alone cannot lead anyone to acquire the qualities that will lead them to happiness, such as serenity, determination, compassion and lucidity.
All the knowledge we need is stored within our CONSCIOUSNESS, but in an embryonic, latent state, and when the human being prepares to express this Wisdom, it comes to the surface.
This perception produces great transformations in the way of thinking and acting in the face of life’s circumstances, and this inner transformation allows the human being to free himself from his own mistakes, which often originate from a distorted perception of the world and reality.
Aristotle said that all the Wisdom of the universe is already within man; he just needs to learn how to access it. Carl Gustav Jung (eminent psychoanalyst and admirer of Gnosticism) taught that within the human being are the very archetypes of creation, that is, the formulas or principles that are at the root of all things.
Gnosis is based on 4 pillars that lead the Human Being to wisdom.
Gnosis as Science – Through the most important elements of science, which are practice and experimentation, we seek to acquire direct knowledge, observing and investigating the various systems of nature and man, with the purpose of analyzing, studying and understanding the complex human mechanism.
Gnosis as Art – Art is synthesized in transformation. Raw material is transformed into a work of art. The sculptor transforms a rough stone into a beautiful sculpture, the musician transforms musical notes into a beautiful symphony. Just as the artist performs this transformation, each person must become an artist of themselves, polishing and transforming the way they think, feel and act.
Gnosis as Philosophy – Philosophy aims to change perception, creating within the individual the necessary reasons to change the way they live. Practicing philosophy is learning to reflect and think for oneself, it is contemplating nature, the universe, circumstances, with the intention of discovering the mystery that each thing holds within itself. In other words, philosophy is both the search for answers and the understanding that we acquire in order to live with Wisdom.
Gnosis as Religion – It is necessary to understand that nowadays the term “religion” has become banal, has fallen into disrepute and does not convey the original and etymological meaning of the word. Religion comes from the Latin “religare”, to reconnect, that is, to reconnect with what is divine within man himself. Thus, true religion does not depend on attending a temple. Religion is a feeling that manifests itself in a person’s attitudes and lifestyle.
Gnosis as Religion seeks to study the science that exists within religious myths, behind symbols, behind different religious forms. Thus, Gnosis as Religion seeks to reintegrate man with the superior forces that exist in the universe and within the human being himself, seeking for this the science that exists in religions. Gnosis teaches THE DOCTRINE OF SYNTHESIS, because it synthesizes knowledge in order to make it practical and accessible to all.
Gnosis leads Human Beings to seek the truth beyond their predispositions.
Using your own Consciousness to discern the truth amidst illusions, becoming a practical investigator: observing, investigating, intuiting and experimenting.
Gnosis is not knowledge that we have to learn, what we have to learn is to allow this Wisdom to manifest itself and this is achieved through SELF-KNOWLEDGE.
“I warn you, whoever you are, oh you who wish to probe the mysteries of nature, that if you do not find within yourself what you seek, neither will you be able to find it outside. If you are ignorant of the excellences of your own home, how do you expect to find other excellences? Within you is hidden the treasure of treasures. Oh, Man! Know yourself and you will know the Universe and the Gods.”
Inscription from the Temple of Delphi – Greece
